Concessions openings continue with five new restaurants

By Scott Henry

Five full-service restaurants with dedicated seating have opened on Hartsfield-Jackson’s domestic concourses since the beginning of the year, meaning the Airport has only about a dozen spaces left to fill in order to complete the ambitious concessions rollout it began in 2012.

The end of January saw the opening of a LongHorn Steakhouse at C13, the first at any airport. LongHorn is a legacy Atlanta brand; its original restaurant opened on Peachtree Street in 1981. The new location is operated by HMS Host.

On February 18, three more sit-down restaurants opened at the Airport: Samuel Adams Atlanta and Dos Equis Explorer Lounge, two new bar concepts from Concessions International (CI), and Atlanta Bread and Bar, a full-service restaurant and bakery operated by Mack II Inc.

The CI outlets are the first restaurants at the airport to offer tabletop iPad ordering, which allows customers to place orders electronically at their table. Atlanta Bread and Bar, another new concept, features a take-out bakery counter and a Heineken beer bar.

Samuel Adams is located at Concourse B midpoint, Dos Equis is at B30 and Atlanta Bread and Bar is at A12.

And last Saturday, February 22, Global Concessions opened Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint, serving Southern food set to a boogie-woogie soundtrack, at C42. Or perhaps we should say reopened, since the company initially introduced the concept to the Airport back in 2008. That restaurant proved so popular that Global eventually opened an expansive second location downtown.

In addition to the new eateries, a Tumi luggage store started doing business in January on Concourse E.

This most recent round of openings brings to 121 the number of locations that have opened since the historic concessions program began in 2012.
