Airport demos refilling stations for water bottles
By A.B. Snedeker

Although passengers cannot take filled water bottles through the security checkpoint, empty bottles in carry-on luggage are allowed. To encourage passengers to use non-plastic containers or to reuse plastic bottles, the Airport has installed two water refilling stations.

The water refilling stations dispense fresh, filtered water with the push of a button.

“These water refilling stations are designed to allow water bottles to be reused, which in turn reduces waste generated at the Airport,” said Michael Cheyne, director of asset management and sustainability.

The water refilling stations are easily retrofitted onto existing water fountains. The two that have been installed were provided by Oasis International, the water fountain vendor, as part of a demonstration project with Atlanta Airlines Terminal Corp. (AATC) and the Airport.

“We will monitor use of the water refilling stations and determine if they can be successfully implemented in other parts of the Airport,” Cheyne said.

On Concourse A, the refill station is at the water fountains across from A19. The Concourse T refill station is at the water fountains near the south security checkpoint.

This water refilling station on Concourse T enables passengers to fill up their empty, reusable water bottles just after they get through the security checkpoint.
